M&M can now supply the popular RSV assisted lift ‘zero rated’ solenoid valve in stainless steel

A couple of years' ago we launched the RSV assisted lift 'zero rated' solenoid valve range to replace the old D189-D293 range. The valves offered improved performance and a more compact design over its predecessor and has proven to be widely accepted by all our customers.
We can now offer the RSV valve with 316L stainless steel bodies making it more suitable for applications involving chemicals, acid/alkali and other corrosive media.

M&M Launch the new RSV range of solenoid valves M&M International UK

M and M International have launched a new range of solenoid valves for process control applications. The new RSV valve replaces the D188 - D233 range of pilot operated valves with assisted lift.

The 'zero' pressure rated valves improve on the already excellent performance of the predecessor and provide many other added benefits, including options for brass or stainless steel bodies, WRAS approval, normally closed or normally open configurations, uprated pressure, high powered coils, seal options of EPDM, NBR or FKM.

Port sizes range from 1/2" to 1" with options of coil voltages, 12vDC, 12vAC, 24vDC, 24vAC, 110vAC, 230vAC. The RSV solenoid valves are available from stock now. Please contact us for further details.

Press Safety Valves

Press safety valves control the constancy of the flow of compressed air whenever compressed air becomes the power supply for the operation of pneumatic units.

In order to carry out a safety function (complying with existing norms) the valves consist of a so-called redundant system, a special surveillance circuit that stops the valve in case of air leakage in the net.

The valve inhibits the operation of the electronic panel until the failure has been fixed and the pneumatic supply restored.

Two 3-way solenoid valves are used in this application. When they are de-energized (Picture 1), they close the inlet of pressurized air from P (red) and connect outlet A to the exhausts R.

The value of pressure inside the pipes is controlled by pressure gauges CP. The two solenoid valves are operated at the same time by an electronic panel (Picture 2).
They close their own exhausts allowing air to flow through the pipes to the piston chambers, which are pushed downwards by pressure.

At this time air can flow from P to A.

If a failure was simulated, for example by de-energizing only the valve on the right, the piston on the left would be pushed upwards by the spring because of a lack of pressure and would open the exhaust.

Air (yellow) from P would flow towards R thus blocking the valve, which would operate again only when the system was safe. The valve would reset automatically when the stand-by position was restored.

This application is extremely delicate.

Metering Valves

A metering valve is designed for the feeding equipment in cattle breeding (ex. pigs).
The valve consists of a plastic body, an elastic diaphragm secured by the cover and a pilot solenoid valve.

Thanks to a computerized system this valve can modify the quantity of feedstuff supplied in each battery in case of cattle feeding differentiations based on age.

The following abbreviations are used to describe how the system operates: “MV” metering valve, “P” supply, “B” use and “R” exhaust, as indicated in the picture.

The system operates as follows: first corn is ground and the flour is stocked into the silos.
The flour is then taken from the silos to be put into a tank and mixed with water.

The mixture thus obtained is distributed to the network by a pump.
The MV intercepts the feedstuff and regulates its distribution to the manger thanks to the elastic diaphragm.

The diaphragm is operated by the pressure of air let into the upper chamber of the solenoid valve.
As a matter of fact, when the solenoid valve (assembled on the cover of the MV) is de-energised, air flows from P to B, pressing the diaphragm and closing the MV; when it is energised air from the chamber is exhausted from B to R and the MV opens.

For this application M&M International has designed a type of solenoid valve where the third way is intended for the supply.

This operation is called second service and is exactly the same carried out by a 3/2 way NO direct acting solenoid valve.
In applications where passages over Ø 1,7 mm are not requested, the recommended valve is less expensive than a 3/2-way valve.

This model is an example of customized product complying with the customer’ s requirements and offering high quality standards and a competitive price.

Media Preparators

Automatic equipment for preparing Agar, a sterile nutritive soil used to grow bacteria.
Agar is used in microbiological analyses of drugs, cosmetics and food. Food contamination by pathogenic micro-organisms is one of the major problems faced by the food industry.

Biochemical analyses detect contaminations in a short time. Samples of products to be analysed are filtered and distributed on Petri plates containing nutritive soil favouring the reproduction of bacteria.
When the reproduction does not take place in the scheduled times, the product can be marketed.

The media preparator carries out various operations: mixing, warming, sterilizing, cooling, are done in a single container, where thermolabile substances are also added.
Two solenoid valves are used in the sterilization circuit, operated by a head control panel.

With the first solenoid valve cold water is taken from the water system and let into the system.
When Agar has been dosed on the plates for growing bacteria, water that has warmed up during treatment is exhausted through the second solenoid valve.

The type of solenoid valve recommended for this application is quite robust and has a f 5,5 mm main orifice.
This large orifice ensures an extremely high flow rate with a performance of 3,5 bar, more than enough to manage the pressure of water from the water system, usually delivered between 2 and 3 bar.
